Charity Miles 

Charity Miles is a free app that helps you earn money for your favorite charity while working out. Just download the app, choose one of 42 vetted charity partners, and get moving. The app tracks your activity -- for every mile you run, bike, dance or move, your charity of choice receives a donation. All donations come from Charity Miles sponsors, so it costs you nothing to earn cash for your favorite cause. Charity Miles members have earned more than $2.5 million for charity to date.

SOULCYCLE CHARITY RIDES…

For a kick-ass workout for a good cause, book a bike on a SoulCycle charity ride. Each year, SoulCycle locations across the country host hundreds of charity rides that build community and raise more than $2.5 million for nonprofits. “At SoulCycle, we work with many incredible non-profit foundations to help raise awareness for LGBTQ rights -- such as the Trevor Project -- disease awareness, and medical research, just to name a few,” said Isabella Levere, Community Impact Coordinator for SoulCycle. “We strongly believe that building a community is one of the most important things to do in order to feel supported, and what better way to do that than through fitness.”

Walk for a Dog

The next time you take your dog for a walk, you can help homeless dogs in your community with the Walk for a Dog app.  Simply download the free app, start walking and earn money for your favorite local animal shelter. Similar to Charity Miles, Walk for a Dog allocates funds from sponsors and directs them as donations to local shelters and pet rescue organizations. The Walk for a Dog app supports more than 9,000 shelters in the U.S. The more active dog walkers a shelter has, the bigger its share of donations, so spread the word to all of your pup’s pals at the dog park.

 
 
 

PLOGGING…

Love jogging? Consider “plogging.” It’s simply picking up litter while jogging. And yes, it’s a thing. The term is a combo of “jogging” and the Swedish phrase for “pick up.” Try taking a trash bag with you on your next run or hike (you might also want to wear gloves). The extra bending down and twisting to pick up litter helps increase your calorie burn, and you’ll be making your favorite route a little more beautiful. With all of the plastic pollution in the ocean, every little bit helps.

Working out and giving back can go hand in hand. Even if it’s as simple as dedicating your yoga practice to someone in need, there are lots of simple ways to add purpose to your workout.
